One shape, two washes

A fluted resin shell that throws light up and down the wall. Nothing on it that does not need to be there.

Grotto, The flutes
01

The flutes

The ribbed shade puts texture on the wall in daylight and catches the wash at night, so the fixture works switched off as well as on.

Grotto, The wash
02

The wash

Light exits above and below the shell, not through it at eye level. You get two soft fans on the wall instead of glare.

Grotto, The resin

The resin

The supplier molds the shade and body in resin, which keeps the fixture lightweight for easy installation and durable on the wall.

4 finishes

Which one is yours

A swatch tells you the colour. This tells you the room it belongs in.

Grotto in White, in a workspace

Grotto in White

Reads as light, not as furniture

White keeps a small desk feeling larger than it measures. Against plaster, paper and pale wood it stops registering as an object at all, which is exactly what you want from something that lives in front of you eight hours a day.

Grotto in Orange, in a workspace

Grotto in Orange

Heat, used sparingly

Orange is warmth you can see from across the room. It wants a plain surface around it and rewards you with a desk that looks arranged rather than assembled.

Grotto in Gray, in a workspace

Grotto in Gray

Neutral, without going invisible

Gray is the one that survives a room changing around it. It holds its shape against warm wood and cool metal alike, so it still looks right after the desk, the chair and the wall color have all been replaced.

Grotto in Green, in a workspace

Grotto in Green

Reads calm, and photographs well

Green takes the clinical edge off a desk that is otherwise all screen and metal. It sits naturally beside wood and plants, and it is the finish that makes a workspace look like somewhere you chose to be.

Questions

Good to know before you equip.

What do the colors actually look like?

White is a cream, Orange is a terracotta, Gray is a dark navy-gray, and Green is a sage. If you want a stark white or a bright orange, this is not that fixture.

How does it install?

It is a hardwired wall sconce. A bracket goes on the wall, the fixture hangs over it, and the socketed LED sits under the fluted shade. Have an electrician make the connection. The supplier does not publish the mounting hardware contents.

Where does the light come out?

Above and below the shell. The fluted shade blocks the source at eye level and washes the wall in both directions, which is what you want beside a bed or along a hallway.

Is the light source included?

Yes. The Grotto ships with its LED light source, the three-color version: white, warm, and three-color modes, 110V. Cooler for a corridor, warmer for a bedside.

How big is it?

The supplier does not publish exact dimensions. Approximate figures: the fixture spans about 8 in (20 cm) across, and the resin shade and body weigh about 1 kg.

Why resin?

Weight and durability. The shade and body are molded resin, which keeps the fixture lightweight for easy installation and means there is no glass to chip on a busy hallway wall.

Can I order these for a project?

Yes, and this is the fixture built for multiples. Volume pricing starts at 2 units at $44.95 each and steps down to $28.95 each at 100, which covers a corridor of hotel rooms or a full floor of bedsides.
