A cloud on a stack of stones

Hand-wound cord over stacked solid wood. The light comes through the shade, and that is the whole trick.

Kumo, The shade
01

The shade

Natural cord wound around a cylindrical frame by hand, 21.6 cm across and 25.5 cm tall. The winding is not machine-even, so the warm glow escapes through the gaps in a pattern no factory would repeat.

Kumo, The stack
02

The stack

Two pebble-form discs of solid log wood on a black iron stem. At 19 cm wide and 13 cm tall the base carries the composition, so the lamp reads as an object even when it is off.

Kumo, Two finishes
03

Two finishes

Walnut is deep chocolate wood under a plain cream shade. Natural is light honey wood under a shade with scattered amber flecks in the weave. Same form, different temperature.

Kumo in Walnut

Warm, and forgiving of whatever else is on the desk

Wood is the one finish that does not ask the rest of the room to agree with it. It sits as comfortably against a steel monitor arm as it does against paper and books, and it is the choice that ages into a desk rather than sitting on top of one.

A finish worth seeing in the room

Color is easy to judge on a swatch and hard to judge on a desk. This is the same piece, shot in a real workspace, so you can tell whether it belongs on yours before it ships.

Questions

Good to know before you equip.

What is the difference between Walnut and Natural?

Two full palettes, not just the wood. Walnut is deep chocolate wood under a plain cream shade. Natural is light honey wood under a shade with scattered amber flecks in the weave. Walnut reads warmer and more formal, Natural lighter and more casual. Same dimensions, same price.

What bulb does it take?

One standard E27 screw bulb, the most common base there is, so replacements are everywhere. The supplier has not yet published a maximum wattage for the socket. Until that is confirmed, a low-heat LED is the safe choice, and we will state the wattage cap here as soon as the supplier confirms it.

How much light does it give?

Ambient light for 3 to 5 square meters, per the supplier, which covers the zone around a bedside, a reading chair, or a desk. The cord winding diffuses the bulb into a warm all-over glow rather than a hard beam, so treat it as atmosphere and reading-adjacent light, not a room's main fixture.

Will it fit on a bedside table?

Yes. The footprint is 8.5 inches across, 21.6 cm, and the lamp stands 40 cm tall, which leaves room on a standard nightstand for a book and a glass. The same scale suits a desk or an open shelf.

Is every lamp identical?

No, and by design. Each shade is wound by hand, so cord spacing and the glow pattern shift slightly from lamp to lamp. That is the wabi-sabi part of the brief: the variation is evidence of the hand that made it, not a flaw to engineer out.

What is it made of?

Solid log wood for the stacked base discs, iron for the stem and frame, and natural fabric cord wound by hand for the shade. No veneer, no printed grain.

Do you offer volume pricing for businesses?

Yes, automatically. Pricing steps down from the second unit, the Volume price tier lands at 10 units, and the best per-unit rate arrives at 100, which suits cafes, hotel bedsides, and offices running the same lamp across many rooms.
